Play Matters Community Grants
Recreation programs and services play different roles to different people. For some it is a lifestyle, for others a sport, but the key is a balance of opportunity. It is important to NPAC to help rural communities provide youth, seniors and families access to as many opportunities as possible to ensure continuous access to a diversity of “Play”.
NPAC accepts donations and pursues grants from foundations and corporations to help provide and support meaningful recreation and leisure opportunities in the Northern Penobscot Region.
Play isn’t all fun and games – and not just for kids. It is all about shaping, learning and inspiring. A game of chess ignites reasoning. A run or exercise class builds endurance and strength. Volunteering develops social responsibility and connects people. We know in our rural communities most of the recreation and leisure supports are possible only through volunteer efforts and their struggle with funding is a major barrier. NPAC hopes to help with our “Play Matters” grants.
We are building a permanent fund for our “Play Matters” grants, called an endowment. The funds are invested and professionally managed. On an annual basis, NPAC receives a report on the growth of the assets and the interest we have earned that can be used for our local “Play Matters” grants
The NPAC board decides how to use the funds through an annual application process.
If you are an individual, organization, providing a recreation and or leisure activity supporting youth, seniors or families in the Northern Penobscot Region, please visit our “Play Matters” grant guidelines page for more information and our Grant Application page to apply.
